Isolation Creation 2

Done With These Rose-Coloured Glasses :: an #isolationcreation self portrait

Do you have both an optimistic side and a pessimistic side? Do they sometimes seem to be arguing loudly inside your head? (Or heart, maybe?) Or is that just me?

I'd say that it's in my DNA to be mainly optimistic (if you know my mom you might understand why) and I usually work pretty hard to keep these rose-tinted specs workin' for me. But sometimes we need a clear view of life or a situation or whatever, and it can help to look at things as unfiltered-ly (not a word?) as possible.

Don't worry, I keep these shades close by, for the next time I think they'll serve me.

This was shot in my usual solo style and it's a composite of multiple frames. Scroll down for behind-the-scenes photos and footage!

Scroll over the images below to read about the process of shooting this, if you're interested :)

This is where the concept started - in the ol' sketchbook (don't judge my terrible drawing skills, ha!) I have lots of little sketches in here that are based on turns-of-phrase. My love of the written word seems to spark ideas :)

During this isolation situation I am working only with things I already have at the studio/at home. I have loads of dried flowers, and these pink rose petals were just what I needed for this concept.

I set myself up in diffused window light so that I could more easily avoid getting distracting reflections in the lenses of the sunglasses.

I sat and stared at these beauties for a while, after realizing it wasn't going to work to just try and stuff them inside the glasses while I was wearing them. For multiple reasons haha!

Eyelash glue to the rescue! I went with the solution of just gluing that s#&t right to my face.

This is a normal way to spend one's time, right?

If you'd like to see some little video clips of the process and also the outtakes and the Photoshop work, they're saved in my Story Highlights on Instagram (the little circles at on my profile page) along with more of these 'making-of' stories! I'm @alexismckeown on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/alexismckeown/

I'm also happy to answer any questions you might have for me about this process, so don't be shy! Comment below and I'll get back to you :)
